I never said that resetting it would be completely useless, I was saying that the disadvantages outweighs its advantages. Thus why I provided pros and cons.

Your suggestion is great for getting rid the abused karmas from karma threads. Having said that, I believe this is only temporary and therefore it wouldn't really solve the issues. As medicine pointed out, it is not about resetting it, it’s about finding a way to keep system away from exploitation

Resetting won't change anything, people will still find a way to abuse the system by asking others for karma and there will be no way to stop them because they will obviously ask privately

The only possible solution is to let the staff to handle this karma system themselves. If you've posted something useful then a karma will be given by one of the member of the staff.

Abusers
Not fair to those who helped
Doesn't really address any key problems

Special karma

Pros

Can only be implemented by the staff
Reduces risk of abuse by huge margin
Abuse is easily monitored
Abuse is easily dealt with

Sure, I may have participated in one of those Karma threads and I couldn't really care less if they choose to reset my Karma. However, it wouldn't be fair for those who earned their karma through sheer amount effort by helping or posting useful topics.
